Supervisor Training Plan

Thank you for choosing to spend your time and effort helping to support Kansas home visitors! The tools in this tailored training plan will help you support the home visitors on your team, so they can support families.

The development of the supervisor training plan is a part of the 2024 CQI project. This training plan will be updated to meet the needs of Kansas MIECHV supervisors.

MIECHV Administration

Read the Kansas MIECHV Operations Manual. This manual is also available in the "Quick Links" section at the bottom of most of the pages on this site.

Supervisors should be familiar with the manual to understand the operations and expectations of the Kansas MIECHV program.

Financial

Refer to the Kansas MIECHV Operations Manual to understand financial procedures, expectations, and timelines.

Learn about how KDHE and LIAs utilize KGMS for grant applications and management. For more information on KGMS, please reach out to KDHE.

Get familiar with your LIA's current MIECHV grant, as well as your LIA's past grant contracts and history with KS MIECHV.

Staff Support

Read through the Kansas MIECHV Operations Manual to understand the policies on staffing, recruitment and retention, and changes in key personnel.

KDHE defers to model requirements for professional development, but may require additional trainings for staff, as needed. If additional trainings are required, KDHE will reach out to your LIA.

Each MIECHV home visitor is expected to receive supervision. KDHE defers to model requirements for staff supervision.

Enrollment and Caseloads

Understand the policies and procedures related to enrollment, discharge, and waitlists for MIECHV eligible families.

Each Kansas MIECHV LIA is expected to serve a certain number of families, as outlined in their current contract with KDHE. Understand the policies on expectation for caseload requirements.

DAISEY and IRIS

DAISEY is the system of record for Kansas MIECHV where all LIAs are expected to track program progress such as capacity, benchmarks, and priority population demographics. Supervisors are expected to understand reporting requirements for their LIAs.

To get started with DAISEY:

Integrated Referral and Intake System (IRIS) is a communication tool to support best practices in social service referral and coordination among community partners. Kansas MIECHV utilizes IRIS to make, receive, track, and respond to referrals for coordinated intake. IRIS is also used to coordinate referrals with other service providers in the community.

Supervisors are expected to understand how IRIS is used in their LIA and throughout Kansas MIECHV.

To get started with IRIS:

Quality Improvement

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) is a systematic approach to examining program processes and improving family outcomes through regular data collection and the use of change strategies. CQI is a continuous and ongoing effort focused on promoting a culture of quality.

Evaluation

Our Kansas MIECHV Evaluation is a Coordinated State Evaluation (CSE) which convenes multiple states focusing on the same evaluation topic monthly to collaborate and learn from each other throughout the evaluation process. We also engage home visitors and supervisors throughout the evaluation process to ensure we focus on the right topics, measure the right things, and interpret results correctly.

The state home visiting team gathered information from key stakeholders in Kansas Home Visiting to conduct a statewide needs assessment.

The 2020 Kansas MIECHV Statewide Needs Assessment details how this evaluation effort is used for decision-making for home visiting programs in Kansas.
